September is National Food Safety Month, and the National Restaurant Association (NRA) has been celebrating all month by sharing advice for making your establishment safer for customers.

This year’s theme is “The Future of Food Safety,” so the NRA is focusing on the responsibility owners have in making sure the technology used at their foodservice establishment is clean and safe to use for customers.

Some of the tips the National Restaurant Association has shared involve the platforms customers are using to take orders and make payments. These include:

  • Make sure iPads and tablets at tables or in kiosks for customer use are properly and frequently cleaned and sanitized to reduce the risk of foodborne illness.
  • Work with third-party delivery services to avoid bacterial growth and cross-contamination with food. Some of the suggestions include preparing the food as close to delivery time as possible, putting the food in tightly-sealed containers, and stressing the importance of swift delivery.
  • Get the word out about your establishment’s food safety practices through social media and other platforms to help maintain your reputation for cleanliness.
